Our Author of the week this week was Martin Waddell. He has written one of the most amazing all-time favourite books… Owl babies!
Owl babies is the story of three baby owls who wake up one night in their hole in the tree to find that their mother had gone, so they sit on the branch and wait, wondering when she will return. At last she does, and they all bounce up and down with joy, welcoming her home.
The story offered children the opportunity to explore separation anxiety and the worries that they naturally experience. The story allowed the children to look at the situation of a parent going away through the eyes of Sarah, Percy and Bill and explored their own feelings. It also reinforced the idea that the situation will be resolved, if a parent goes away they will come back. If Mummy leaves you at nursery or Reception, childminder she will come and pick you up.
The early years really enjoyed learning all about the owls. Have a look below at some of the work that the children did through the week.
