We were all in for a treat today! We had a lovely parent coming into talk to us about a very special festival. It’s called Durga Puja. This is a major festival of Hinduism, traditionally held for 10 days in the months of September and October. Durga Puja celebrates the victory of the Goddess Durga over the demon king Mahisahasura. It begins on the same day as Navratri (a festival we learnt about from Miss Roshni).
Our parent came into our EYFS setting and talked us through what her family does to celebrate this festival. She showed us pictures of the festival and talked about the kinds of food they ate during these 10 days.
We looked at photographs of the festival that is celebrated in India as well as listen to some music and watched special dances. We had lots of fun! We can’t wait to learn about Diwali.
