Yesterday , all the nursery children were in for a treat! Miss Roshni taught them all about a very special festival that runs for 10 days… it is called Navratri. This is a Hindu festival that spans nine nights (and ten days) and is celebrated every year in the autumn. It is observed for different reasons and celebrated differently in various parts of India.
We sat in a circle with Miss Roshni who talked to us about the gods and goddesses and the rituals that people all over do to celebrate this festival. We explored the ‘dandiya’s- special wooden sticks that are decorated using colourful material and used when dancing.
We were so inspired by the colour and magic that we decided to dress up and practice some dance moves with the dandiya sticks!
We had lots of fun and learnt so many new things about this festival. We look forward to learning about Diwali and how Navrati is linked to this festival.
