The nursery and reception children learnt all about the festival of Harvest. They learnt that Harvest is a festival of celebration of the food grown on the land. It’s a process of gathering a ripe crop from the fields. We looked at photographs of farmers ploughing the fields, reaping of the grain or pulse and understanding the importance of machinery (e.g trackers, mills and windmills) at the farms.

Children in the nursery enjoyed various harvest related activities such as following instructions to make play dough fruits and vegetables.

The children also enjoyed using the leaves, fruit and vegetable stamps to create an autumn related collage. Through this activity, the children learnt how to mix colours to create different tones and shades of primary colours as well as understand differences between 2D and 3D shapes.

The children also enjoyed a game of fruit and vegetable counting!

We also brought tin and dried food into school and joined the rest of the school with their celebrations
